Jess is a dog behaviour nerd based in Hamilton, Ontario. She has a psychology degree from The University of Western Ontario and three years of experience in the field of applied behaviour analysis. After seeing how positive reinforcement promoted long-lasting behaviour changes in her human clients, she became interested in an analytic approach to canine behaviour. Underdog Training was born as a passion project that uses only evidence-based, modern, and fear-free approaches to shaping canine behaviour. Canine separation anxiety is her main area of interest, after helping her own pup Luna cope with alone-time anxiety. She has completed her SA Pro Certification and is also completing her dog trainer certification through Canine Academy in Milton, Ontario. She strives to help dogs like Lu, and dog guardians like herself, navigate separation anxiety and achieve alone time comfort.

Toward the end of my career as a science teacher, I began studying to turn my lifelong doggy hobby into a new career. I qualified as a franchised Puppy School tutor, a Certified Trick Dog Instructor (CTDI), a scent dog tutor, and also as a Certified Animal Behaviourist (CAB). I then decided to specialise in the issue of separation anxiety due to the real suffering it can cause in both dogs and their owners. The SA Pro training has given me the tools to really help dogs get over their home-alone issues. Although currently based in Oxfordshire, I am a northerner with a straightforward attitude and a positive belief that with the right tools we can make a big difference. Before learning about this method, I found separation anxiety cases difficult, but now am pleased and excited about the difference that is made using this clever technique.

Hey! I’m a dog trainer and a cat coach so I’m here for help with your dog, your cat or both if they aren’t getting along. 😉 I specialized in reactivity, stress (chronic stress), anxiety and of course separation anxiety in dogs. I love to help dogs (and cats) to a relaxed and happy life. There is so much conflicting information out there about dogs and the way we “should” be training or treating them. I would like to make a change by informing about science-based, fear- and force-free training methods. Because yes, there is another way which is loving and gentle to dogs and also yes, they work for all dogs, regardless of breed or age. 😉 My own dog Nala is the living proof of what remarkable changes are possible when you apply modern dog training. She is a lovely Kooikerhondje, born in 2015 and she had taught me so much. I love what I do and I’m very grateful to be able to do this and help dogs and their parents to a more relaxed and happy life together.
